This week I would like to acknowledge several Cannabis activists that have played a huge part in raising awareness of the benefits of Medicinal Cannabis.
Mark Heinrich, 22 April 1955 - 15 February 2017.
Mark was an active member of The Legalise Cannabis Party (Formerly The NSW Hemp Party) who discovered The Cannabis plant while seeking relief from severe PTSD. Mark is stated as saying "I am a veteran of the Insidious War on Drugs, and I am a survivor."
Mark was a medical cannabis educator and patient advocate working with medical cannabis medicines and had a specific interest in treating cancer, paediatric seizures, and Alzheimer's/dementia. Mark worked with whole plant therapies and science-based processes.
Mark was also the researcher for Cannabis Science Australia, working with Dr Bob Melamede and Jacqui Spruce, as well as being a very proud member of 'Polite" a Cannabis activist group born in Nimbin.
A Cannabis Documentary "Marijuana Australiana" was released on Youtube on Thursday the 20th of April, showcasing Mark's work and dedication to the cause.
Tony Bower, another well-known Cannabis activist is also highlighted here in this documentary.
DR 'Bob' Robert Melamede, Researcher and Activist who Considers Cannabis a Miracle Drug. Dr Bob, passed peacefully at 420pm on the 19th of April 2023 at the age of 75.
Dr Melamede was considered an expert on the endocannabinoid system, the complex biological network of neurotransmitters and cell receptors that regulate, like a thermostat, virtually every system in the human body. Because of the role that human-generated cannabinoids play in maintaining homeostasis in the body, Melamede contended that high doses of the plant's extracts had anti-aging properties.
He also claimed that cannabis could relieve not just the symptoms of many chronic ailments — including cancer, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, HIV/AIDS and Alzheimer's disease — but could also slow down and even reverse the underlying conditions themselves.
Dr Raphael Mechoulam, 5 November 1930 – 9 March 2023
A Bulgarian-born Israeli organic chemist and professor of medicinal chemistry at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
Known as "the father of cannabis research," Mechoulam is best known for his work (together with Y. Gaoni) in the isolation of tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, the main active principle of cannabis. He was also successful in the isolation and identification of the endogenous cannabinoids anandamide from the brain and 2-arachidonoyl glycerol, or 2-AG, from peripheral organs.
Dr Machoulam was also well-known for his discovery of The Endocannabinoid System and has published more than 450 scientific articles based on his research of the Cannabis Plant.
There are many heroes in the fight for affordable patient access to the Cannabis Hemp Plant, above are just a few, 3 of which are deceased.
I will endeavor to bring you more stories of other advocates for The Cannabis Hemp Plant at a later date.
Bright Blessings
